It was a frightening moment: My best friend told me he was going to die. He told me how he would die and who was going to orchestrate his death. I put my hand on my weapon and I declared with deep resolve. I rebuked him by saying, “That will never happen! Not on my watch!” This one friend, whom I had grown to love, respect, and follow, said what I could not tolerate to hear.
