ABOUT
Coaching: Life Matters is a registered 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization committed to removing barriers to healthy relationships.
Founded in 2012 by Terry S. Smith, Coaching: Life Matters was created to offer inspirational and educational coaching services by providing spiritual, emotional, and relational support and resources to people in all walks of life.
Terry’s quest for personal answers and his desire to help others led him to a Masters in Counseling, a Masters of Theology, and a Doctorate in Personality, Religion, and Culture from Boston University. While in Boston, Terry spent ten years teaching and counseling on the university campus, ten years counseling and teaching in metropolitan Boston, and five years directing a counseling center.
Terry has lived in Nashville, Tennessee for the past twenty-five years and has been married to Charlotte Burkett Smith since 1965. In August of 2015, they celebrated 50 years of marriage. They have four daughters and thirteen grandchildren, and together they provide premarital and marital resources for couples seeking to overcome and grow through the obstacles people face in marriage.
OUR VISION, MISSION, & VALUES
OUR WORK AS A NON-PROFIT
As a registered 501(3)c non-profit educational organization, we do not charge for our services. For those who Coaching: Life Matters has helped, we kindly ask that folks consider making a tax-deductible donation in an effort to pay it forward so someone else can receive our services at no cost.
WHAT IS THE CORE STORY?
At the center of Coaching: Life Matters’ work is a tool called The Core Story.
The Core Story tool is a life-mapping experience. It is written out (on paper or on a board) and looks similar to what a genealogy tree may look like. Although, instead of mapping blood relations, the Core Story maps relational history patterns as seen through a person’s family tree.
When mapping a person’s Core Story, there are a host of different experiences that a person may encounter such as trauma, heartbreak, conflict, broken relationships, divorce, death, sickness, etc.
However, no matter what hurt and pain a person might encounter in their journey, amidst every shadow there is always a bright light we refer to as Love — and this Love is what reveals the Core Truth.
The Core Truth is that each person, no matter their life experiences, is deeply loved and that this love shines through the darkness of any life circumstance.
The Core Truth is that each person, no matter their life experiences, is deeply loved and that this love shines through the darkness of any life circumstance.

TESTIMONIES
QUICK INSIGHT
“Terry listens and hears all perspectives. People need quick insight, not slow self-realization. Terry facilitates truth.”
REACHING FULL POTENTIAL
“The leadership coaching has not only enabled me to see the detrimental impact of my own core beliefs on business partners and employees, but has enabled others close to me to come to grips with their own destructive (and unconscious) belief systems. I don’t believe there is anyone in the country better equipped to help leaders reach their full potential.”
RE-EVALUATION OF MISSION AND VALUES
“After several years of sustained growth we asked Coaching: Life Matters to lead us through a formal re-evaluation of our construction company’s mission, values, and overall direction. They inspired our employees to formalize our commitment to a values driven approach to serving our clients and associates.”
COMPASSIONATE ADVICE
“Coaching: Life Matters™ has been involved in my personal and business life for several years. I found their advice to be overwhelmingly insightful, compassionate, considerate and professional. It has permeated all aspects of my life and greatly benefited me as a person, business owner, father, and friend to those around me.”
